For this important historical structure of the city of Izmit, we provided timber structural engineering services for the system and the details. We worked for Asmaz Ahsap Karkas Yapilar, structural timber contractors. This 3-story structure with load-bearing walls had a very large door and window openings with no lateral assistance from braces within the walls. To overcome this earthquake vulnerability we provided a design with the special-strength and two-sided plywood panels doubly-nailed to the posts. Constructed with C24 and GL24 grade structural timber, the mansion had a central room with 9m free openings, which we crossed with a 400mm structural depth. The deflection and the vibration criteria were carefully considered during this slender design.
