Restoration of a historic 4-story cast and wrought iron octagonal fire watchtower from 1853 in Harlem, NYC. The structural system is composed of 8 cylindrical columns pinned to C-shaped cast iron spandrel beams forming a ring on every floor. The centerpiece is a delicate helical stairway hung from the top floor of the tower. Responsibilities were the structural analysis of the existing framing and stair systems and designing the permanent reinforcements, bracing, and detailing with stainless steel.
